“By a long distance, the most requested game was Edgbaston 2005”

Test Match Special will replay its commentary of the 2005 Edgbaston Ashes Test this May.

Matches from England’s 2019 World Cup-winning campaign, the 2017 Women’s World Cup final, the 2010 Men’s World T20 final between England and Australia, and other historic Ashes matches are also set to be broadcast on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra following requests from listeners.

The Edgbaston Test – which England famously won by two runs to level the Ashes at 1-1 – proved to be the most popular request, and the BBC Sport website will also be running ‘live’ text commentary for the final two days of the match on May 9 and 10.

The Women’s World Cup final, won by England at a packed Lord’s, will begin on May 2 at 10:30 BST, with the Edgbaston Test beginning at the same time on May 7. The 2010 World T20 final, which England won to claim their first men’s ICC title, will be broadcast on May 16, with coverage of the 2019 Cricket World Cup beginning the following day. Further matches are set to be scheduled for June.

“We have been inundated with listeners wanting us to replay great matches,” said TMS producer Adam Mountford.

“By a long distance, the most requested game was Edgbaston 2005 so we are delighted that in the absence of any live cricket action we can rekindle some magical memories of that game and other great matches from England’s recent past.”

Besides BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra, the commentaries will also be available on BBC Sounds and the BBC Sport website.
