The 2024 Maharaja T20 Trophy match between Bengaluru Blasters and Hubli Tigers went down to the wire, resulting in three Super Overs.
Until today, there wasn’t a single Super Over at Karnataka’s Maharaja Trophy since it came into being in 2022. However, the 17th match this year saw three of them being bowled, with Bengaluru Blasters and Hubli Tigers in the thick of the action at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
After the Tigers batted first and posted 164, the Blasters were well on course to chase down the total, needing two in five balls with three wickets in hand. However, only two were conceded thereafter with a wicket coming off the last ball, resulting in a tie.
First Super Over
The Blasters scored 10 in the first Super Over. Left-arm pacer Lavish Kaushal, who took 5-17 in the first innings, was tasked to defend the runs. With the Tigers requiring two of the final ball, drama unfolded. Manish Pandey chipped a straight one into the air, but Lavish failed to pouch it. But he threw the ball to the keeper’s end, restricting the Tigers to a single and resulting in another tie-breaker.

Second Super Over
The second Super Over was no less chaotic. Blasters’ fast-bowler Gnaneshwar Naveen didn’t concede a single boundary, but Manish Pandey ran three consecutive doubles to take the Tigers to 8-0. Despite leaking a four off the first ball, Vidwath Kaverappa kept his cool to force a third Super Over.

Third Super Over
The deadlock finally came to an end in the third Super Over but not without any further drama, which has been the main theme in the fixture. Replying to Blasters’ 12-1, the Tigers needed a four to win off the last ball. Manvanth Kumar delivered, remaining unbeaten on a four-ball 11, with Tigers clinching the crunch encounter.
