India have named three new faces for their upcoming women's ODI tri-series against Sri Lanka and South Africa, while star batter Shafali Verma continues to be snubbed from the set-up.

The 15-member squad will compete in a tri-series against Sri Lanka and South Africa, beginning on April 27. The tournament opener will feature India taking on hosts Sri Lanka at Colombo’s R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, the venue for all matches. The most notable inclusion is the return of captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who was rested for the recent three-match home ODI series.

India will play their second match on April 29 against South Africa, followed by matches against Sri Lanka and South Africa on May 4 and 7, respectively.

India will play their remaining matches over nine days, beginning with a clash against South Africa on April 29, followed by games against Sri Lanka on May 4 and South Africa again on May 7.

Three newcomers earn maiden call-ups

Kashvee Gautam, N Shree Charani and Shuchi Upadhyay are three uncapped players who have received their maiden international call-ups.

Fast bowler Kashvee had an excellent WPL 2025, finishing with 11 wickets in nine matches, while left-arm spinner Charani impressed in her two outings for Delhi Capitals, picking up four wickets. Shuchi, another left-arm spinner, was rewarded for her Player of the Tournament performance in the Women’s One-Day Trophy held in December last year. With 18 wickets at an economy of 3.48, Shuchi played a decisive hand in Madhya Pradesh becoming the champions.

Shafali continues to be overlooked

Discarded opener Verma, the top run-scorer in the most recent domestic tournament with 414 runs, continued to be overlooked. Her consistent performances in domestic cricket – including scores of 39, 8, 50, 40, 25, 68, 197, 91, 95, 87, 115, and 26 – were not enough to earn her a recall. Among these innings was a century off just 60 deliveries.

The BCCI confirmed that fast bowlers Renuka Singh Thakur and Titas Sadhu were not considered for selection for the upcoming series due to injuries.
