Thisara Perera has been named as Sri Lanka’s captain for the forthcoming ODI and T20 series against India.
The 28-year-old all-rounder took charge of the depleted side that took on Pakistan in a T20 in Lahore last month, when a number of senior players refused to travel.
The news means the removal of Upul Tharanga as one-day skipper in the latest development in what has been a turbulent period for Sri Lanka’s limited-overs squad.
Angelo Mathews resigned his post after losing an ODI series against Zimbabwe in July, and Tharanga’s tenure included 5-0 whitewashes against both India and Pakistan.

Perera, who has played 125 ODIs since 2009, has been rewarded for sticking with the team and leading a young group capably during the Pakistan trip, which Tharanga chose not to join.
India and Sri Lanka will play three ODIs and three T20Is finishing on Christmas Eve.
