Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has overcome an "extremely critical" period following the heart attack he suffered yesterday.
Tamim, 36, suffered acute chest pain during a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match on Monday (March 24), and was admitted to the Fazilatunnesa Hospital where it was discovered he seemed to have suffered a massive heart attack.
The latest report on his condition, from last night, was that he had undergone heart surgery and regained consciousness following the procedure.
"By the grace of Allah, Tamim's condition right now is better. He had a heart attack. For that, an angiogram, angioplasty and stenting was done. By the grace of Allah, the stenting was really smooth and efficient. The block [in his artery] has been completely removed," were the words of the hospital's media director Dr Rajib Hasan, as reported by the Daily Star.

"He is healthy, he is talking, he is eating, he has spoken with his family and with the doctors. By the grace of Allah and through all of your prayers, he is with us.
"Inshallah, we will be able to discharge him from here. His family will decide when and how he will be discharged. We have explained everything to them. We will honour the family's decision and cooperate accordingly."
