County champions Surrey’s 10 game winning streak was ended after a storm at Taunton forced their game against Somerset to be abandoned after damage to the wicket overnight.
Though there were covers in place, the storm was so fierce that it blew the covers from the wicket with the pitched deemed unfit for play.

Somerset CEO Andrew Cornish said: “Not even additional sandbags and secondary ties on covers could hold them [the covers] in place.”
“Apologies for those planning to come today but that was a prolonged and exceptional storm last night.”

Somerset took six points for the game, five for the draw and just one bonus point. Surrey had been ahead in the game, with Somerset 168/3 in their second innings, still 171 runs behind following on.
Surrey had already sealed the title with victory over relegated Worcestershire last week, also helped by Somerset’s freak tie against Lancashire. This result does however help Somerset in their quest to seal second place, which would come with an extra £16,000 in prize money.
