Mitchell Starc has produced video evidence as proof of his injury during Australia’s 2018 South Africa tour, to claim a USD 1.53 million insurance payout for losing his contract in IPL 2018.
Starc, who was snapped up for USD 1.8 million by Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of IPL 2018, filed a lawsuit against his insurers in April last year, after they disputed the timing of his injury — a right tibial bone fracture — during the South Africa series that kept him out of the IPL.
According to Sydney Morning Herald, mediation talks between Andrew Fraser, Starc’s manager, and the lawyers of the insurers broke down when Fox Sports’ footage was furnished of Starc bowling in the second Test. Consequently, a civil trial that was scheduled in March was postponed to June, and further now to August.

The delay occurred after the insurers’ lawyers claimed that “they did not have enough time to assess the footage from March 10, one clip lasting one minute 37 seconds, and the second 7:25 minutes,” while Starc’s lawyers argued that the insurers had 13 months to review the footage.
According to the report, the lawyers further demanded footage of Starc bowling in the first and third Test of the series and wanted to verify the authenticity of the footage as “other than Fox Sports it does not know the source of the footage”, “it does not know the name of the person who compiled the footage” and “it does not know what instructions were given to the person who compiled the footage, other than ‘to identify whether there was any footage which supported the plaintiff’s claim that he had an accident as defined within the policy on that day’s play’.”

Starc claimed that his injury troubles began in the second Test itself, when he experienced “calf issues on the uneven foot marks of a worn wicket”, which triggered a tibial fracture during the third Test.
