West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin has been ruled out of the next month's Women's World Cup Qualifier after picking up an injury in the late stages of the Women's Premier League.
Deandra Dottin injured ahead of Women's World Cup Qualifier
Dottin was ruled-out of the West Indies' 15-player squad for the tournament in Pakistan, which was announced yesterday (March 24). The six-team tournament will begin on April 9, with the top two teams at the end of the competition qualifying for the World Cup in India later this year.
The injury to Dottin is a blow to the West Indies' chances, with Pakistan, Scotland, Bangladesh, Thailand and Ireland making up the other teams in the competition. The 33-year-old was the leading run-scorer for the side during the T20 World Cup last year, and only Stafanie Taylor has more runs in women's ODIs in the West Indies' history.
Dottin picked up the injury while playing for Gujarat Titans in the WPL earlier this month. Ahead of the Eliminator which would see Gujarat take on eventual winners Mumbai Indians, Dottin suffered an injury moments before the toss and was replaced in the XI by England all-rounder Dani Gibson. Gujarat lost the game by 47 runs and were knocked out of the competition. Before the injury, Dottin had scored 142 runs in the competition at a strike rate of 154.34.

Elsewhere in the West Indies squad, Chinelle Henry returns after sitting out West Indies' most recent series against Bangladesh with an injury. Henry was a breakout star from this year's WPL as a lower-order power-hitter, finishing the competition with 163 runs at a strike-rate of almost 200. Taylor and Rashada Williams have also returned to the squad, which will be led by Hayley Matthews.
West Indies' first game of the World Cup Qualifier will be against Scotland at the LCCA Stadium on April 9. The competition will comprise solely of a round-robin group stage with the two teams with the most points after all have played each other once advancing to the main competition in October.
