Sri Lanka announced their squad for the two-Test series against England in January 2021 – here’s the complete SL squad list.
In December, Sri Lanka announced a combined squad for their tour to South Africa and England’s visit to the island nation that closely follows it. The 22-member squad is led by Dimuth Karunaratne, and included five uncapped players in Minod Bhanuka, Asitha Fernando, Santhush Gunathilaka, Wanindu Hasaranga and Dilshan Madushanka. Hasaranga made his debut in the Boxing Day Test against South Africa.
Veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews was not included in the squad due to a hamstring injury.
The tour was initially scheduled to be held in March 2020 but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ahead of the England series, there are a number of injury concerns for the Sri Lanka contingent. Dhananjaya de Silva, Suranga Lakmal, Kasun Ranjitha and Dinesh Chandimal are all suffering from injuries, and are unlikely to be fit for the second Test against South Africa, which puts their participation for the England series in doubt.
Last month, England also announced a 23-member touring unit for the two Tests, resting Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer. The England contingent will practice in Hambantota from January 5 to 9 ahead of the first Test.
The two series begins with the first Test on January 14 and will be followed by the second one on the 22nd of the month. Both games will be held in Galle. The series will be a part of the ICC Test Championship.
