The white-ball series will be played at the same time when the India Test contingent will be touring England. With most of the Test stars featuring in the World Test Championship final and the five-match Test series in UK, India is expected to send a second-string side to Sri Lanka.
Here’s what the Indian T20I team might look like for the Sri Lanka series, and how the ODI team could line up.
As per the tentative schedule, which is yet to be confirmed by the Sri Lanka cricket board, the two teams will feature in three ODIs and as many T20Is on the tour. Players such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah, among other big names, will miss out on the tour, paving the way for fringe players to participate. Shreyas Iyer, who is currently recuperating from injury, is unlikely to be available for the tour.
Reports also suggest that Rahul Dravid, the former India captain and current head of the National Cricket Academy, could accompany the team in some coaching capacity, although it’s yet to be confirmed.
Sri Lanka could see a new-look team for the India series, which will follow the ODI series against Bangladesh in May. The squad, announced recently, sees experienced players Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal and Dimuth Karunaratne being dropped, and Kusal Perera being named captain.
Here’s the tentative list of fixtures (according to a report in ESPNcricinfo).
