Dasun Shanaka of Sri Lanka in bowling action during the ICC Men's T20 Cricket World Cup West Indies & USA 2024 match between Sri Lanka and South Africa at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on June 03, 2024 in New York, New York

Former Sri Lanka white-ball captain Dasun Shanaka leaked 30 runs off just three balls during a 2024 Abu Dhabi T10 fixture between Delhi Bulls and Bangla Tigers on Monday (November 25).

In the 10-over-a-side contest, Shanaka came to bowl the penultimate over of Delhi Bulls' innings and bowled as many as four no balls. Delhi were at 72-6 with Shadab Khan batting at run-a-ball nine alongside Nikhil Chaudhary, who just got off the mark with a single.

The bowler erred in length, and Chaudhary put away a high full toss to the deep square leg boundary for a four. Shanaka then bowled two no balls on the trot and was hit for fours on both occasions. With the free hit on, Chaudhary hit a powerful four off the second legitimate delivery down the ground.

Shanaka still did not learn from his mistakes as he bowled a full ball on Chaudhary’s pads and was flicked for a six over long leg fielder. Again, he sent down two successive no balls, conceding a single and a four, respectively.

After the first three legal deliveries off the over went for 30 runs, Shanaka pulled things back with three singles off the last three but the damage was already done nonetheless.

Chaudhary remained unbeaten on a 16-ball 47 to take Delhi to 123-6 at the end of the innings.

In response, Shanaka, batting at No.3, struck 33 off 14, including three sixes and two fours, to set the tone for the Tigers’ chase. Liam Livingstone’s 15-ball 50 not out brought them home with seven wickets and two balls remaining.

Corruption concerns in Abu Dhabi T10

Earlier, UAE player Hazrat Bilal bowled a huge no-ball while playing for Samp Army in their match against New York Strikers’, amid concerns following corruption bans in the tournament.

Pune Devils batting coach Ashar Zaidi, along with team owners Parag Sanghavi and Krishan Kumar Choudhary faced a ban from the ICC after they were proven guilty of corruption during the 2021 season.
