the brothers CJ (left) and JP King

In a CSA 4-Day Series Division 1 game at Gqeberha, Christopher King claimed his maiden first-class five-for, while his brother JP got his first hundred in the format.

Warriors captain Senuran Muthusamy (106) helped his team recover from 40-4 to post 264 after he won the toss and opted to bat at St George’s Park. JP King fell for seven, while his younger brother Christopher “CJ” made 24.

CJ King, the 20-year-old seamer, now claimed 5-61, his maiden five-wicket haul in first-class cricket, to bowl out the Dolphins for 208. None of their batters made it to fifty. Before this, his best figures used to be 3-37, against the Lions at Johannesburg in November 2024.

By the time JP King, 21, came to bat in the second innings, the Warriors were 70-2, ahead by 126 runs in the second innings. He stood amidst the ruins with a 179-ball 143 to take his team to 325 as none of his teammates went past 40. The brothers added 34 for the seventh wicket before CJ fell for 14. For the Dolphins, Okuhle Cele returned 4-51 and Tristan Luus 5-90.

This was JP King’s maiden first-class hundred. His previous best, of 92, had come in 2022/23.

Who are the King brothers?

The King brothers had signed up for the SA20 2025 auction. A year after inviting him to their training session, the Joburg Super Kings (fittingly, perhaps) picked JP King as a rookie player for 2025. CJ King, on the other hand, went to the Durban’s Super Giants under the same category.

JP King made nine runs in his only game of the 2025 SA, while CJ King dismissed Moeen Ali in his spell of 3-0-17-1 in his only outing.

At the time of writing, the Dolphins were 246-6 with Khaya Zondo (103) and Eathan Bosch (31) at the crease as Muthusamy had taken four wickets. They need another 136 to win.
