The Cricket South Africa (CSA) has revealed the list of centrally contracted players for the 2025/26 season, with the retainer period running from June 1 2025, to May 31 2026.
Heinrich Klaasen not given contract
The biggest omission from the list is Heinrich Klaasen, who has not signed a central contract for the upcoming season. Unconfirmed reports have indicated, however, that discussions regarding his future with the national team are still ongoing. Klaasen, who has been a regular feature in the white-ball squads in recent years, is one of the most destructive batters in the world in the shortest format and a much-in-demand batter across various T20 leagues.
He has played 238 T20s thus far, averaging 31.35 at a strike rate of 149.85.
David Miller, Rassie van der Dussen receive hybrid contracts
David Miller and Rassie van der Dussen are the recipients of the hybrid contracts aimed at accommodating the “dynamic nature of modern-day cricket”. They will only participate in previously-decided select bilateral series and ICC events.
Explaining the move, Director of National Teams and High Performance, Enoch Nkwe, stated: “The hybrid contracts take into account the flexible demands of the modern game and will allow David and Rassie to contribute during key tours and tournaments.”
Fresh faces get awarded
A total of 18 national contracts have been awarded, with five players - David Bedingham, Kyle Verreynne, Senuran Muthusamy, Lizaad Williams, and promising young pacer Kwena Maphaka - earning full-time Proteas contracts for the first time.
Three players who held contracts last season are no longer part of the new list – Bjorn Fortuin, Andile Phehlukwayo, and Tabraiz Shamsi. Shamsi had withdrawn from his contract during the previous season. Anrich Nortje, who opted out of a national contract last season in order to manage his workload, does not have a contract this year too.
