Somerset County Cricket Club have announced a new community partnership with Young Somerset, the largest youth work charity in the county.

The partnership will seen the club and organisation work together to encourage young people to become actively involved in shaping the communities they live in by designing a range of social, economic, educational and recreational opportunities. Young people will be able to come away from the programme with life-long skills and relationships.

Specific service areas which the partnership will focus on include Alternative Education Provision as well as Enterprise, Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health Support. As a part of this, Somerset 2023 members will receive a 10% discount in Young Somerset’s Bold & Brave shop at Riverside Place in Taunton’s Independent Quarter. The shop acts as a social enterprise space and community hub, and also sells locally sourced products and handmade goods made by young people.

Nik Harwood, Chief Executive of Young Somerset said: “Young Somerset is delighted to partner with Somerset County Cricket Club and Somerset Cricket Foundation, and we are excited to begin exploring more opportunities of working together.

“Community partnerships are vital for us to increase our ability to reach more people and to enhance our work in supporting young people.”

“We know the value of collaboration at Young Somerset and we are keen to work together to develop new and innovative initiatives.”

Spencer Bishop, SCCC Media and Community Executive added: “Somerset County Cricket Club and Somerset Cricket Foundation are looking forward to working with Young Somerset to help young people in the region to achieve their goals.

“There are a number of avenues that we are looking to explore within this initiative, and we are excited to see what we can achieve together in order to benefit future generations.”
