Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has shared an update on his health, a day after suffering a massive heart attack.
Tamim was rushed to the hospital after suffering a heart attack while playing for Mohammedan Sporting Club against Shinepukur Cricket Club in the Dhaka Premier Cricket League. The 36-year-old was admitted to Fazilatunnesa Hospital, where he underwent a heart surgery and regained consciousness.
The opener was on life support following a critical period after the attack, but the hospital’s media director, Dr Rajib Hasan, confirmed he was “healthy”. “He is healthy, he is talking, he is eating, he has spoken with his family and with the doctors. By the grace of Allah and through all of your prayers, he is with us.
"Inshallah, we will be able to discharge him from here. His family will decide when and how he will be discharged. We have explained everything to them. We will honour the family's decision and cooperate accordingly.”
Tamim Iqbal shares update on his health
Tamim has shared his first social media post after the incident, expressing gratitude towards his well-wishers. “The beat of our heart keeps us alive. This beat can stop without any notice – but we keep forgetting about that. When I started my day yesterday, did I have any idea what was about to happen to me?” wrote Tamim Iqbal in his post.
“By the grace of the Almighty Allah and because of your prayers, I have come back. I was fortunate to have some
incredible people around me during this crisis, because of their prudence and endless efforts I have overcome this danger and come back.”
He also reflected on the fleeting nature of life: “Some incidents remind us of reality, remind us of how short life really is. In this brief life, if nothing else, we should all stand by each other during crises – that is my request to you all.”
