The Sky Sports Cricket commentary team were nearly wiped out by a ball hit by former England batsman Jonathan Trott during fielding practice ahead of the third day of the first Test against Pakistan.
Whilst previewing the day’s play Ian Ward, Nasser Hussain and Pakistan great Wasim Akram were forced to take cover as the ball hurtled towards them.
Trott, who didn’t hit a single six during his Test career, is part of the England coaching setup for the Pakistan series.
After being forced to duck following shouts of ‘heads’, Ward was left less than impressed telling viewers, “Trott was trying to do this as we were getting ready to come on air!”
In his playing days Wasim struck fear into the hearts of batsmen all over the world and Ward warned of the consequences that could have followed if the ‘Sultan of Swing’ had been struck.
INCOMING from @Trotty!! 💣💥
“@nassercricket – you’re expendable; we need @wasimakramlive” 🤣
A close-miss at the start of our #EngvPak #raisethebat Test build-up…

“If it hits the great Wasim Akram in the head he’ll know about it,” he chuckled.
He also couldn’t resist a quick jibe at his Sky Sports Cricket colleague Nasser Hussain who was also in Trott’s firing line.
Pointing at Hussain and then Wasim, Ward joked, “You’re expendable but we need him!”
Had the game been played in front of a crowd perhaps the trio could have been warned sooner, not forcing them to take such drastic evasive action.
But it’s reassuring to see that even former professional cricketers who will have been told to ‘always face the net’ in their playing days take their eye off the ball from time to time.
