Former England captain Sir Alastair Cook has joined the Marylebone Cricket Club’s (MCC) world cricket committee.

The committee, made up of current and former international cricketers and umpires, is a complementary body to the International Cricket Council that meets twice a year to discuss important issues in the game.

Cook, England leading run-scorer in Test cricket, retired from the format in 2018 but continues to ply his trade in county cricket with Essex. He will be joined as a new member of the committee alongside current Cricket West Indies president Ricky Skerritt.

“We have been keen for some time to appoint a new representative from the West Indies and I am delighted that Ricky will be joining us. His knowledge of the game from a West Indian perspective will be invaluable, and his work outside of the sport will also be advantageous to the committee.”
