Shubman Gill strengthened his case for a national recall with a brisk, unbeaten 204 against West Indies A in Tarouba on Thursday, August 8, becoming the youngest to score a double century for an India representative side.
Gill had been dismissed for a golden duck by Akim Fraser in the first innings, but the 19-year-old responded with a sublime knock in the second innings to help set the hosts a target of 373, after India declared on 365-4.

Unperturbed by the side’s tricky situation, Gill played positively. His innings was laced with 19 fours and two sixes as he finished with a strike-rate over 80.
Gill had earlier expressed disappointment at not being selected to the senior India touring party for their multi-format series in the Caribbean, despite having top-scored for the ‘A’ side in the one-day fixtures against the hosts.
“I was waiting for the Indian senior team to be announced, and I expected to be selected for at least one of the squads”

“It was disappointing not to get picked but I am not going to spend time thinking over it,” Gill had told CricketNext regarding the setback. “I’ll keep scoring runs and performing to the best of my ability to impress the selectors.”
‘Scoring runs’ he is, and this knock will serve as a fresh reminder to the national selectors to keep him in the radar.
