Two days after announcing his retirement from all forms of cricket, Shikhar Dhawan has signed for the Legends League cricket, a T20 tournament where retired cricketers take part.

The left-hander announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket on Saturday, ending an illustrious career spanning nearly 20 years. Dhawan, who made his first-class debut in 2004 for Delhi, played 269 games for India, including 167 ODIs, where he established himself as one of the greatest openers of the game.

He made 2,315 Test runs, including a sensational 187 on debut, the first of his seven hundreds. Dhawan also amassed 6,793 ODI runs at an average of 44.11, making him one of four openers to make at least 5,000 runs and have averages and strike rates over 40 and 90, respectively. In 68 T20Is, he made 1,759 runs.

Dhawan also captained India in 15 matches across formats.

Dhawan joins Legends League Cricket

Dhawan signed up for the LLC on Monday, and confirmed his decision by saying: "Taking on this new chapter with Legends League Cricket feels like the ideal progression after my retirement. My body is still conditioned for the demands of the game, and while I’m at ease with my decision, cricket is an inseparable part of who I am, it will never go out of me.

"I’m eager to regroup with my cricketing friends and continue to entertain my fans as we create new memories together.”

The fifth season of the Legends League Cricket will begin in September this year.
