Marnus Labuschagne will lead Queensland in the 2024-25 Sheffield Shield

The 2024-25 Sheffield Shield, Australia’s first-class tournament, will start on October 8 – here’s everything you need to know about the schedule, squads and where to watch details of the competition.

Australia's Test regulars to feature in the opening rounds

The new season of Sheffield Shield will be played from October 8, with defending champions West Australia eying a prestigious record. Since the competition expanded to six teams in 1977-78, no sides have won four titles in a row.

Australia’s several multi-format players will participate in the Shield, especially the Test regulars, giving them a chance to fine-tune themselves ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy from November 22.

Australia Test captain Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Steve Smith, among others, have been selected in the New South Wales squad. Marnus Labuschagne will lead Queensland.
