Against Namibia at Al Amerat, Oman became the first ever team to bowl out a side without using a single over of seam in the history of decided ODIs.
Shakeel Ahmed (4-25) helped Oman bowled out Namibia for 96 an ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 match at Al Amerat. It might have been worse from 19-4, but for Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton’s 30.
Openers Aamir Kaleem and Jatinder Singh added 42 for the opening stand before Gerhard Erasmus (5-34) triggered a collapse. The hosts, reduced to 87-8, scraped home without losing another wicket.
Oman did not use a single over of seam in Namibia’s 33.1-over long innings. This is now the longest spin-only innings in a decided ODI, and the fourth such instance across gender. In men’s ODI, the only other such innings lasted only 5.2 overs: the USA, defending 36 against Nepal, used only Timil Patel and Noshthush Kenjige.
The only two instances in women’s cricket also came in unsuccessful defences of sub-100 totals. Oman, thus, became the first team to complete a bowling innings without a seamer as well as the first team to bowl out a side in an ODI without one.
It's the second recent notable all-spin innings in white-ball cricket. In the recently concluded SA20, Paarl Royals made history by using spinners for all 20 overs of an innings, the first side to do so in a franchise competition.
