Sana Mir, the 32-year-old veteran of 112 ODIs, has just become the first woman from Pakistan to get to the top of the bowlers’ rankings for the format.
Pakistan were hosting Australia in Kuala Lumpur in a series of three ODIs as part of the ICC Women’s Championship, and were swept 3-0. Off-spinner Mir, however, did exceptionally well with the ball, picking up 3-26, 1-37 and 3-53 against a line-up of top-notch batters.

She was placed fourth on the ICC table prior to the series, and moved up past Marizanne Kapp of South Africa, and Megan Schutt and Jess Jonassen of Australia to get to the perch.
Mir now has 136 wickets in her ODI career, the strikes coming at an average of 25.02 and economy rate of 3.71.
That has her at joint sixth in the list of all-time wicket-takers in women’s ODIs. In front of her are Jhulan Goswami (India, 207), Cathryn Fitzpatrick (Australia, 180), Anisa Mohammed (West Indies, 146), Lisa Sthalekar (Australia, 146) and Neetu David (India, 141), with England pacer Katherine Brunt on 136 sticks too.
Alhamdolillah ! Thanks to the Almighty for giving me strength to keep going.

Mir has also played 90 T20Is, picking up 76 wickets at an average of 21.67 and economy rate of 5.20.
“This is a team effort of support staff and players who have helped me excel. I would also like to thank ICC for providing us [Pakistan Women] regular opportunities to play with the big teams through ICC Women Championship and to coach Mark Coles, who chose to look at my skill rather than my age,” Mir tweeted.
Praise for Mir flowed in soon after the news was out, with a number of premier women cricketers from around the world and members of the Pakistan men’s team congratulating the champion spinner.
