Nottinghamshire all-rounder Samit Patel will join Glamorgan on a loan deal for the remainder of this season’s County Championship.
Patel, 34, has been at the county for the entirety of his 17-year professional career. He makes the move after he was left out of Nottinghamshire’s squad for their upcoming County Championship clash against Yorkshire at Scarborough. He will still be available for Nottinghamshire in T20 cricket.
2019 has been a tough season for both Patel and Nottinghamshire in red-ball cricket. The former England man averages 17.20 with the bat and 55.85 with the ball as Notts find themselves at the bottom of the table with four games remaining. Patel will now join a Glamorgan side pushing for promotion to Division One for the first time since 2005.
“I’m grateful to Glamorgan for the opportunity,” said Patel. “Knowing in advance that I’m set to miss out on selection for Scarborough has given Glamorgan time to come in for me on a loan deal.
“I’ll keep giving it everything for Notts in the Blast, so overall I’m looking forward to a positive end to the season across both formats.”

Earlier in the season, Patel admitted his disappointment at not playing “anywhere near” the level that he should be on All In, Notts’ behind-the-scenes documentary. The documentary also includes footage of Patel receiving the news of his first dropping from the Notts first team in over a decade from Peter Moores, the county’s head coach.
Patel’s current contract at Notts is due to run until the end of the 2020 domestic season.
