SA T20, Cricket South Africa‘s new T20 franchise league, is set to begin in January 2023 – here’s the head coach list and support staff of each team.

Owners and co-owners of IPL teams have formed six franchises – Durban Super Giants, Joburg Super Kings, MI Cape Town, Paarl Royals, Pretoria Capitals and Sunrisers Eastern Cape – will be participating in the inaugural season. A player auction will be held in September 2022, after which squads of each team will be formalised.

Months ahead of the start of SA T20, there’s been plenty of announcements regarding the head coach and support staff of each side, with a number of prominent names finding roles with the franchises. In August, each team laid down their five direct signings ahead of the auction.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape

Taking a leaf out of IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad, owned by the franchise, SE Cape have made a couple of retentions from the SRH think-tank. Badani, who is the fielding coach at SRH, and Dale Steyn, who is the fast-bowling coach, will have roles to play under Adrian Birrell.

Pretoria Capitals

Another coaching stint for Jacques Kallis, who is set to join forces with head coach Graham Ford at the Capitals franchise [part of the same franchise ecosphere as IPL team Delhi Capitals]. Kallis is also joined by former SA teammate Dale Benkenstein in the coaching role.

Paarl Royals

Royals have an extensive coaching setup led by JP Duminy. Interestingly, Duminy retired as a player in 2019, signing off for Barbados Royals, the partner team to Paarl under the Royals Sports Group franchise.

There will be plenty of experience in the Cape Town camp, led by Simon Katich – who has served in the capacity of assistant coach and head coach in the IPL. Hashim Amla will lend his knowledge as batting coach.

Joburg Super Kings

Looking to carry on the success of the Chennai Super Kings franchise, Joburg have retained the services of Stephen Fleming as the coach of their side. Additionally, Faf du Plessis has been named as captain of the side.

Durban Super Giants

Lance Klusener, who has, in the past, coached the Afghanistan national side, will be taking over the partner team to IPL side Lucknow Super Giants.
