Gautam Gambhir was announced as the new head coach of the senior India men's team, leading to lots of reactions from the cricket community, most wishing the former India captain well.
The position for the India men's coach was left vacant after Rahul Dravid's tenure came to an end following the 2024 T20 World Cup victory. BCCI had already released the application for the post, and there were strong suggestions that Gambhir is the frontrunner for the job.
Today (July 9), BCCI released a statement confirming his appointment. The former opening batter will take charge of the Indian team from the upcoming Sri Lanka tour.

Gambhir's appointment brought out a lot of reactions from people, including people who had held the post previously. Anil Kumble, another former India captain and coach, wished him the best, as did WV Raman, widely reported to be Gambhir's competitor for the position. Harsha Bhogle, meanwhile, pointed out that despite his stern ways, Gambhir's "heart is in the right place" and that he is confident "he will do a fine job".
