After a lot of reports and speculations doing the rounds regarding the role of the senior India men’s team’s head coach, BCCI has finally announced that Rahul Dravid and his team will continue in their roles.

Dravid, who had previously served as the head coach of the India Under-19 and A teams as well the Head of the National Cricket Academy, took up the role of the head coach of the senior India men’s team after the 2021 T20 World Cup.

He signed a two-year contract which expired with the conclusion of the 2023 World Cup. Since then, BCCI were actively looking to finalise India’s coaching setup before the tour of South Africa.

According to a report by ESPNCricinfoyesterday (November 28), Dravid had been offered a contract extension by BCCI, which the former India captain has accepted.

In a press release today (November 29), BCCI said that they unanimously agreed for an extension of Dravid’s tenure: “The BCCI engaged in productive discussions with Mr. Rahul Dravid after the term of his contract ended following the recently concluded ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 and unanimously agreed to further the tenure.”

Along with Dravid, India’s support staff included Vikram Rathoure as the batting coach, Paras Mhambrey as the bowling coach, and T Dilip as the fielding coach, among others.

There had been some reports that Dravid might not continue as India’s head coach and might as well take up a coaching role for an IPL team instead. That, however, has not happened.

On the extension of his contract, Dravid thanked BCCI and his family. “I thank the BCCI and the Office Bearers for placing their trust in me, endorsing my vision, and providing support during this period. The demands of this role necessitate considerable time away from home, and I deeply appreciate my family’s sacrifices and support.

“Their instrumental role behind the scenes has been invaluable. As we embrace new challenges post the World Cup, we remain committed to the pursuit of excellence,” said Dravid.

India’s next assignment following the ongoing five-match T20I series against Australia is their all-format tour of South Africa, starting December 10.
