India offspinner R Ashwin was one of three overseas players to have their Yorkshire contracts cancelled, with cricket in the United Kingdom having ground to a halt until at least July 1, in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. South Africa left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj and West Indies bruiser Nicholas Pooran are the others.
While Ashwin, who was set to join the club at the conclusion of the Indian Premier League, and Maharaj were due to turn out during the first-class season, Pooran’s acquisition was made for the T20 Blast. The remainder of Yorkshire’s players have currently been furloughed.

“Firstly, I really appreciate the players’ understanding in this matter,” Yorkshire’s director of cricket Martyn Moxon said. “We have been in regular contact with the players and their agents throughout this Covid pandemic.
“They have been extremely professional and appreciate the uncertainty facing counties at present. We hope that we will be able to see them at Emerald Headingley in the future.”
