Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has been officially named as head coach of IPL franchise Delhi Daredevils, which was announced via their Twitter feed.
Delhi finished sixth in last year’s edition of the tournament, and are yet to win a title since its formation in 2008.
Ponting will replace former coach Paddy Upton and another former international captain, India’s Rahul Dravid. Dravid chose to commit to coaching India A and India under 19s rather than pursuing further IPL attachments.

Ponting’s previous IPL affiliations lie with Mumbai Indians, as he coached the franchise to their second victory in 2015. His contract, however, was not renewed when it had expired after the 2016 season. Ponting joined Mumbai as a player in 2013, having also been a member of the Kolkata Knight Riders.
