The police, Law 42 and an abandonment – a Dutch T20 cup encounter involved such drama on Friday.

A clash between two players in a match between Hermes-DVS and Punjab in Schiedam was the boiling point for such tensions.

According to Emerging Cricket, a confrontation arose between Hermes batsman Olivier Elenbaas and Punjab wicketkeeper Mohsin Baja after a failed appeal for a catch, with verbals leading to such heightened tensions that both were subsequently sent off the field by the umpires for committing level-four offences under Law 42.

The police were called, and while tensions had eased by the time of their arrival, Hermes did not return to the field, leading to the match’s abandonment.
