Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has said players from south India face taunts from the crowd when playing domestic cricket in the northern or western parts of the country.
Pathan’s statement comes in the wake of Daren Sammy’s revelation that he, along with Thisara Perera, was allegedly called “k****”, a derogatory word with racist undertones, by his teammates at IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Pathan, speaking to ANI, said that unruly spectators at first-class games, in an attempt to gain attention, end up directing jibes at players, thus “crossing the line.”

“I have seen that in domestic cricket,” Pathan said, “some of our brothers who come from south India, when they come to play domestic matches in north or west India, they do sometimes get taunts.
“Generally in first-class matches, you see a smaller crowd, and when there is a smaller crowd, there is always one guy who is trying to be a joker, who is trying to be famous – he will just want to direct jibes at players and as a result, he crosses the line.”
Pathan stressed on the importance of imparting values to kids at a young age to ensure that they grow up with the ability to distinguish right from wrong.

“I believe in the society we need to educate everyone, elders and family should teach what is right to say and what’s not, we need to value faith and beliefs of others, we can do better by education kids of our generation,” he said.
