The first edition of the Pakistan Junior League will begin on October 6, with Gujranwala Giants taking on Mardan Warriors in a night game. There will be six teams taking part, all of whom will be mentored by former superstars. According to Pakistan Cricket Board chief Ramiz Raja, the league is “a city-based league with players to be selected through a draft system involving international age-group cricketers”.
Shahid Afridi will mentor Mardan Warriors, while West Indies legend Vivian Richards will oversee the youngsters in Gwadar Sharks. Shoaib Malik will mentor Gujranwala Giants and Colin Munro will be in charge of Rawalpindi Raiders. Darren Sammy (Hyderabad Hunters) and Imran Tahir (Bahawalpur Royals) have been chosen as mentors as well.
The six teams will play the other once in a round-robin stage, which is scheduled from October 6 till October 16. The top two teams will play the first Qualifier, from which the winner will enter the final. The winner of Qualifier 2 will be the second finalist. The final will be held on October 21. There will be a total of 19 games, all of which will be played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
