Pakistan's Khurram Shahzad bowls during the third day of the second and last Test cricket match between Pakistan and Bangladesh, at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on September 1, 2024

Watch highlights: Fast bowlers Khurram Shahzad and Kashif Ali took nine wickets in tandem to help Pakistan A bowl out Sri Lanka A cheaply on day one (November 11) of the unofficial Test between the second-string sides in Rawalpindi.

After being asked to bat first, Sri Lanka A were skittled out for 115. Pacer Kashif Ali (5-31) was Pakistan A’s wrecker-in-chief with assistance from his partner in crime Khurram Shahzad, who dismissed four batters for 32 runs off his 10.1 overs

Sri Lanka were reduced to 13-4 at the start after the duo’s opening burst. The tourists’ skipper Pasindu Sooriyabandara stitched a 51-run stand with Sonal Dinusha before Hussain Talat snared the former to end his stay for a 40-ball 28. Dinusha (30) was the top scorer of the innings.

The visitors went to lunch at 90-6 and could add only 25 runs thereafter. No.10 Isitha Wijesundara wielded his bat, hitting a four and six during his 13 off 12, while Wanuja Sahan (6) was the final wicket to fall, courtesy of Shahzad.

After taking his maiden Test five-for against Bangladesh, Shahzad missed the England Test series through injury and recently made his domestic comeback. This performance is an encouraging step on his return.

In response, Pakistan lost their captain, Muhammad Hurraira for six, bowled by left-arm pacer Vishwa Fernando. His opening partner Abdul Faseeh was dismissed for 26 in the 20th over by Sahan after putting on a 34-run stand with No.3 batter Ali Zaryab, who finished the day unbeaten on 18 along with Mohammad Suleman (11*). Pakistan went to stumps at 66-2 after batting for 24 overs. The day came to an early closure as only 57.1 overs could be bowled due to bad light.
