Oman-USA play out first ever all-spin, no-seam completed ODI

The game at the Al Amerat became the first instance in ODI history where not a single ball of pace was bowled (in matches that have had a result).

Oman, who had become the first team to bowl all overs of spin in a completed ODI during their match against Namibia on Sunday replicated the act on Tuesday, when they dismissed USA for 122 after fielding first. Oman used five bowlers - all spinners - in the first innings which lasted 35.3 overs, with Shakeel Ahmed grabbing three.

In reply, USA opened the innings with spinners Milind Kumar and Harmeet Singh as well. They managed to dismiss the openers in the span of four overs, after which slow left-armer Nosthush Kenjige wreaked havoc with a five-for. Yasir Mohammad was the fourth spinner to bowl for USA, ending with 2-10 in six overs, as the team skittled out Oman for just 65.

How many times have spinners picked all wickets in an ODI innings?

It was only the third time a team had bowled all overs of spin in an ODI innings, with Oman also adding themselves to the list earlier in the game. Of the 20 wickets that fell in the game, 19 went to spinners, with one run-out in USA’s innings.

USA, who picked all ten Oman wickets with spin, thus, became just the eighth team to do so. Overall, it was the 14th instance of all wickets falling to spin in a men’s ODI.
