Former England, Middlesex and Somerset batsman Nick Compton has hit out at Indian skipper Virat Kohli, calling him ‘”foul mouthed,” referencing abuse Compton claimed he received from Kohli in 2012, Compton’s first serie in Test cricket.

The tweet was in response to several exchanges of words that took place between the Indian captain and various members of the English side in the second Test at Lords, which India won by 152 runs.
During the match, Kohli exchanged words with Jos Buttler saying “don’t worry about it, this isn’t white ball cricket” before dropping a catch offered by Buttler soon after. Kohli also engaged in a war of words with James Anderson, audibly swearing and saying, “‘this isn’t your back yard” to England’s leading wicket-taker.

Back in February, David Lloyd suggested that Kohli should be banned for three games for ‘berating’ officials during England’s visit to India but the India skipper has also garnered praise for his leadership style, including from former Australia skipper Mark Taylor, who said: “I think he is a very powerful guy in world cricket, but I think he does a very good job to walk that fine line in being an aggressive cricketer and also a statesman. I think he’s doing it very well.”
The abuse Compton claims he received was during England’s victorious tour of India in 2012/13 where the top-order batsman stepped into Andrew Strauss’ shoes beside Alastair Cook following the former’s retirement.
Compton provided the perfect foil to Alastair Cook’s sublime patch of form, averaging 34 but generally getting the side off to a strong start on a historic tour for England.
