BCCI has been on the hunt for a renowned brand to join as the official kit sponsor ever since its contract with Nike ended in late 2020, and they are finally in luck. After stints by Mobile Premier League (MPL) and Kewal Kiran Clothing Company (parent company of Killer Jeans), the Indian team is all set to have Adidas as their official kit sponsor.
Jay Shah announced the partnership on Twitter saying, “We are committed to growing the game of cricket and could not be more excited about with one of world’s leading sportswear brands. Welcome aboard, Adidas.”
Adidas are currently the sponsors of several famous sporting teams worldwide and across various sports, including but not limited to Manchester United, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and the All Blacks.
This partnership between BCCI and Adidas comes as a major relief for BCCI who have had to partner with lesser-known brands like MPL and Killer Jeans as their official kit sponsors in the last few years. The contract is supposed to begin in June 2023, with the deal with Killer Jeans, the current sponsors, set to expire by the end of May 2023.
The deal between BCCI and Adidas is for five years, with the contract running till March 2028. Adidas will be manufacturing all match, training, and travel wear for the Indian Men’s and Women’s senior, youth, “A”, and “B” teams, and their coaches and staff. The Indian Men’s team will be first seen in the iconic brand’s jersey in the World Test Championship Final which starts on June 7, 2023.
Bjørn Gulden, Adidas CEO, said about the partnership, “We are proud to partner with BCCI and Team India, the most iconic team in India. Cricket is the most important sport in India and it is very important for us to be visible and invest in it.”
Neelendra Singh, general manager at Adidas India, also spoke about how “historic” the partnership is. “We are beyond excited for this historic moment at Adidas, not just in India but also globally. We are proud to see the three stripes on the Indian cricket team,” he said.
I'm pleased to announce @BCCI's partnership with @adidas as a kit sponsor. We are committed to growing the game of cricket and could not be more excited to partner with one of the world’s leading sportswear brands. Welcome aboard, @adidas

India did not have a kit sponsor before 2006, when Nike came into the picture and signed a seven-year deal. BCCI and Nike parted ways in 2020.
