Netherlands, the 13th member in ICC’s Cricket World Cup Super League, will play their first game in the tournament, nearly a year after its inauguration in 2020 with the series against Ireland. The Netherlands have had a decent warm-up to the big series with the bilateral series against Scotland in late May.
Ireland, on the other hand, lost 0-3 to Afghanistan and drew level with the UAE in the recent series in UAE. They have recalled senior players William Porterfield and George Dockrell, who last played in 2019, for this bilateral series against Netherlands.
Porterfield’s recall is a tad surprising given that he was made the side’s fielding consultant recently. For the Wolves – the Ireland A side – Porterfield had a less-than-ideal series recently against Netherlands A. Netherlands haven’t announced their squad, but it should be pretty similar to the one that is playing Scotland currently.
