Most six-fors in women's ODIs, full list: Deepti Sharma equals world record with 6-31 vs West Indies

Deepti Sharma world record

India all-rounder Deepti Sharma equalled the world record for the most number of six-wicket hauls in women's ODIs during her spell of 6-31 in the third ODI against the West Indies today (December 27).

West Indies elected to bat first after winning the toss in Vadodara and got off to the worst possible start, losing opener Qiana Joseph to Renuka Singh Thakur off the first ball. Matters went from bad to worse as Thakur also scalped Hayley Matthews in the first over to leave the visitors reeling at 1-2.

Thakur also accounted for Deandra Dottin four overs later as the West Indies slipped further to 9-3, before a 91-run fourth-wicket stand between Shemaine Campbell and Chinelle Henry took them to 100-3 in 21 overs. That was when Deepti Sharma came on to bowl the fourth over of her spell and started on a wicket-taking spree.

She first removed Campbelle off the first ball of the 22nd over, before dismissing Zaida James in the next. After another brief partnership, Deepti returned to set off a collapse that saw West Indies go from 141-5 to 162, four of those five wickets belonging to the India off-spinner.

Deepti finished with figures of 6-31 from 10 overs, making it her third five-wicket haul and second six-wicket haul in ODIs. In the process, she became the first Indian woman to take more than two five-fors and the second woman ever to take two six-fors in the format after South Africa's Sune Luus. Overall, 20 players have taken a six-wicket haul in women's ODIs.

Deepti's 6-31 are also the joint third-best figures recorded by an Indian bowler in the format. Jhulan Goswami and Mamatha Maben are the only other Indian women to have taken a six-for in ODIs.

In response, India were struggling at 73-4 after 13 overs at the time of writing. The hosts are already leading the series by 2-0.
