Sky Sports Cricket commentator Michael Holding has questioned the bio-security protocols in place around the six Tests in England this summer after Jofra Archer was left out of the team for the second game against West Indies for a breach.
Archer returned to his home in Hove while travelling between the first venue in Southampton and the second in Manchester. He will now undergo five days of self-isolation and two Covid-19 tests before being considered for selection again.
The quick has apologised for the breach, and former England captain Michael Atherton said that, once his punishment is over, that should be the end of it as far as repercussions for Archer’s career go. However, Holding questioned why Archer was allowed to travel between venues in a car in the first place.

“I just want to ask a few questions of the ECB and these protocols though,” the former West Indies quick said on the Sky Sports Cricket broadcast of the second Test. “I can understand protocols have to be put in place but I would think they should be a little bit more logical.
[breakout id=”0″][/breakout] “Why aren’t the England team travelling on a bus? If they have already passed their Covid tests, everyone is together, they have six Test matches, they are moving from one venue to the other. Why aren’t they all just in a bus travelling to the next venue? Why are they allowed to be going in cars? What’s the purpose of that? People need to just think a bit.”
