After Sri Lanka’s ignominious series defeat away to England, Yas Rana runs the rule over the 15 players used by Sri Lanka in the three-game ODI series.
Avishka Fernando – 2
16 runs @ 8, SR: 100
A couple of failures for Fernando who lit up a World Cup game against West Indies two years ago with a fine century.
Kusal Perera – 5
82 runs @ 27.33, SR: 91.11
Entertained with his 73 in the series opener, taking on England’s new ball attack as his teammates fell around him and at one stage threatening to carry his bat. He was unable to come close to replicating that performance in the last two fixtures.
Pathum Nissanka – 1
16 runs @ 5.33, SR: 33.33
A miserable series for Nissanka whose ODI returns to date have been worlds apart from his extraordinary first-class numbers. He scored a hundred on Test debut in March and you get the sense that his game is far more suited to the longest format at this stage in his career.
Dhananjaya de Silva – 7
95 runs @ 47.50, SR: 92.23
Responsible for the standout individual performance from a Sri Lankan in the series. His 91 at The Oval was a classy effort, but it didn’t come close to giving England a chase that would concern them.
Oshada Fernando – 2
18 runs @ 18, SR: 75.00
Dismissed in awful fashion in his sole outing in the series, finding Chris Woakes at mid-off as he looked to take Tom Curran on over the top.
Wanindu Hasaranga – 6
100 runs @ 33.33, SR: 68.02
1 wicket @ 72, ER: 5.14
The standout Sri Lankan player over the whole tour. His runs helped arrest a trio of collapses and while his bowling was less incisive than it was in the T20I series, he still kept things relatively tight.
Dasun Shanaka – 6
96 runs @ 48, SR: 68.08
Like Hasaranga, Shanaka helped his side stave off humiliation but his interventions were too late to have any bearing on the result.
Chamika Karunaratne – 5
51 runs @ 25.50, SR: 51
2 wickets @ 36.50, ER: 5.61
Provided a couple of helpful cameos with the bat and picked up a wicket each in the first two games without bowling with much menace.
Binura Fernando – 5
1 wicket @ 103, ER: 5.46
Didn’t carry quite the same level of threat as he did in the T20I series but he looks to have the tools to be a successful bowler at this level.
Dushmantha Chameera – 7
3 wickets @ 32, ER: 5.64
Chameera bowled with good pace and his three-for in the Durham ODI caused England a moment of discomfort before Joe Root and Moeen Ali steadied the ship.
Asitha Fernando – 4
No wickets, ER: 5.40
Came off second best in his battle with Jonny Bairstow at The Oval but recovered well later in his spell.
Praveen Jayawickrama – 2
No wickets, ER: 7
Bowled one over and batted No.11 in his sole outing at Chester-le-Street.
Charith Asalanka – 1
3 runs @ 1.50, SR: 17.64
Endured two tough outings before being dropped for the series finale.
Dhananjaya Lakshan – 2
2 runs @ 2, SR: 22.22
No wickets, ER: 6
Failed with the bat and was used for just two overs with the ball on debut at Durham.
Ramesh Mendis – 1
1 run at 1, SR: 20
Another inexperienced Sri Lankan batter who struggled – he was dropped after the series opener.
