Shikhar Dhawan – 6/10
86 runs @ 28.66, SR: 108.86
Shikhar Dhawan had a tough initiation into captaincy, managing different sets of players over the three-match series, and trying to keep the batting afloat in the last two T20Is, when India had just five batters available. He shouldered more responsibility with the bat than usual, and struggled to find the right tempo.
Suryakumar Yadav – 9/10
One innings, 50 runs
Breathtaking in the only innings he got to play in the series, Suryakumar Yadav all but booked himself a place in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup.
Prithvi Shaw – 1/10
Duck in only innings
A first-ball duck in his only innings denied us of Shaw magic in the T20I leg, with him going into isolation after the first T20I. It would be harsh to judge him on one dismissal, but notably he was undone by movement in the air, a familiar foe.
Ishan Kishan – 5/10
One innings, 20*
Kishan got just one outing with the bat, denting his chances to cement a place in the T20 World Cup squad. An extended squad could still see Kishan squeeze through, especially given the form the man next on the list is in.
Sanju Samson – 1/10
34 runs @ 11.33, SR: 94.4
Sanju Samson fluffed a huge chance to bag a T20 World Cup spot, floundering in all three innings and appearing clueless in tackling the spinners on the slower decks. It’s safe to assume that Samson has played his final T20I for a while.
Devdutt Padikkal – 3/10
38 runs @ 19.0, SR: 100
Devdutt Padikkal got a couple of chances to make a good impression, but the sluggish surfaces and the lack of support from the other end meant that the southpaw never quite got going.
Ruturaj Gaikwad – 2/10
35 runs @ 17.0, SR: 125
Gaikwad looked pleasing to the eye as always, but the scores eluded him as he made just 35 in two outings, both times showcasing glimpses of his flair and promise.
Hardik Pandya – 2/10
One innings, 10 runs, one wicket
Hardik’s slim returns resumed as he couldn’t get going with the bat in his only innings (10 off 12 balls) and conceded runs at a rate of 8.5 in two overs in the first match after which he went into isolation.
Nitish Rana – 1/10
15 runs @ 7.5, SR: 55.5
Rana’s chance to impress the selectors and management went begging as he struggled for timing in two knocks from the middle order. To be fair, the left-hander was out of position and had little to no support.
Krunal Pandya – 2/10
One innings, 3*, one wicket
Krunal Pandya tested positive for COVID-19 after an ordinary outing in the first T20I where his two overs cost 16 runs. Krunal will need an outstanding IPL to push his case for a place in the T20 World Cup squad.
Rahul Chahar – 9/10
Four wickets @ 10.5, Eco: 5.25
India’s bowler of the series, Rahul Chahar was exceptional when called upon, befuddling batters with his guile and variations and could be a strong contender to be India’s first-choice spinner at the big ICC event later this year.
Kuldeep Yadav – 6/10
Two wickets @ 23.0, Eco: 7.6
Kuldeep looked the part in the second T20I, picking up two wickets, which could easily have been more had India reviewed a decision or the fielders hadn’t dropped catches. The left-arm wrist spinner found turn and bounce and was effective through the middle overs.
Varun Chakravarthy – 4/10
Two wickets @ 30.5, Eco: 5.3
Varun had two games to make a solid impression, but erred on the shorter side slightly and was less effective than India would have liked him to be with his mystery spin.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar – 8/10
Five wickets @ 10.4, Eco: 5.47
29 runs @ 29.0
India’s second-highest run-scorer with the bat in the series, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was good with the ball until a wet ball in his last over in the second T20I saw him concede crucial runs. Overall, though, Bhuvneshwar was impressive with is control and lines with the ball.
Yuzvendra Chahal – 8/10
4-0-19-1 in only game
Chahal continued a good showing from the ODIs in his only appearance in the T20I series. That said, Chahar’s performance could put pressure on his tag as India’s leading T20I spinner for the World Cup.
Chetan Sakariya – 2/10
One wicket @ 34.0, Eco: 9.27
Sakariya had just one opportunity with the ball in hand, and although he picked up a wicket, leaked more runs than he would have liked.
Sandeep Warrier – 3/10
3-0-23-0 in only game
Just two runs came of Sandeep’s opening over on T20I debut and he bowled good lines throughout. However, his final figures took a hit after a misfield from Nitish Rana added four runs to his ‘runs conceded’ column.
Navdeep Saini – NA
Did not bowl
Saini went down in the second T20I while trying to stop the ball in the field and hurt his shoulders. He did not bowl a single game in the series, hence we’ll refrain from rating him.
Deepak Chahar – 5/10
3-0-24-2 in only game
Chahar leaked runs upfront with the new ball in his only game in the series, but made up in the death with two wickets in a six-run over.
