Lungi Ngidi took 6-39 on debut as South Africa beat India by 135 runs in the second Test at Centurion.
The 21-year-old took four wickets on the fifth morning as India’s middle and lower order capitulated to hand South Africa an unassailable 2-0 lead in the the three-match series.
The hosts had set Virat Kohli’s team 287 runs to win on Day 4 on a slowish wicket. They removed both openers and the captain himself – who scored such a magnificent 153 in the first innings – on the fourth evening to leave themselves with seven wickets to take on the final day.
Those wickets came in a hurry as India were eventually bowled out for 151, with Ngidi’s 6-39 coming in 12.2 overs.
