David Lloyd and Ian Bishop might share their collective love for the sport on the microphone, but it isn’t hard to distinguish the two figures in person. As far as cricketing mix-ups go, this one ‘sounds’ bizarre!
Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Lloyd revealed how he was mistaken by a sound engineer for Ian Bishop, the former West Indies quick, during broadcasting duties at the Emirates Old Trafford on day four of the second England-West Indies Test.
“I’ve had some amusing cases of mistaken identity in the past, but Sunday’s took the biscuit,” Lloyd wrote.

“A young sound engineer came into the box, looked at me, and said: ‘Right, Bish, I’ve got to get you ready for your fast-bowling demo.’
“Unlike me, Ian Bishop is 7ft 3in and from Trinidad! The lad admitted: ‘I don’t know anything about cricket!'”
The problems didn’t end there for the commentary panel, according to Lloyd, as a customary Covid nasal swab test for Nasser Hussain ended up requiring a little customisation.
“Another Covid test as I entered Emirates Old Trafford before the start of play,” Lloyd wrote. “I sat on a chair and this chap rattled my tonsils, then excavated my nostrils, for which he needed a longish cotton bud,”
“Mind you, not as long as the one they needed to get up Nasser Hussain’s beak, which I gather had to be flown in specially.”
