Leicestershire lost seven wickets in the first hour of play before being bowled out for 98 on day one of their County Championship fixture against Yorkshire.
In a dramatic collapse after being put to bat first, Leicestershire lost their first seven wickets for just 15 runs. Yorkshire pacers Ben Coad (5-14) and Matthew Fisher (3-24) sent as many as four opposition batters for ducks. No one in the top seven reached double-digit scores, with Ajinkya Rahane making a 19-ball eight before being pinned lbw by Fisher. What’s even more intriguing was that 12 off those 15 runs came in boundaries, with two coming off Rahane’s bat and another off Liam Trevaskis’.
Since World War 2, the lowest first-class score at the fall of the seventh wicket belongs to Nottinghamshire, who were 8-7 in a Championship match against Essex in 2003. While Leicestershire averted the unwanted record, they still were in danger of being dismissed for the joint third-lowest first-class score.
Cox leads Leicestershire's fightback
However, wicketkeeper Ben Cox launched a counter-attack with Tom Scriven, taking 37 off the next four overs. Cox took 14 runs off the 16th, slamming Jordan Thompson for three fours. The resurgence was short-lived as Coad snared Scriven for a 16-ball 18 to complete his five-wicket haul, with Leicestershire reduced to 52-8.

Another wicket fell soon. This time, it was Scott Curie, whose 15-ball two ended after Thompson rapped him around his pads. Cox was left stranded on 51 off 31 as Leicestershire were bowled out for 98 in 24.2 overs. His 31-ball unbeaten stay had eight fours and two sixes.
