The latest set of updates to the ICC player rankings saw several big moves made, including significant slips for India stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
Rohit, Kohli slip down Test batting rankings; Pant, Jaiswal make gains
Both Rohit and Kohli were in action for India against Bangladesh in Chennai over the past week, but had difficult games with the bat. Rohit scored 6 & 5, while Kohli scored 6 & 17 and failed to review his lbw dismissal in the second innings, as television replays showed he had nicked the ball. As a result, both players have slipped down five spots each in the rankings – Rohit from fifth to tenth, and Kohli from seventh to twelfth.
A couple of other Indian batters made gains though, as Rishabh Pant's century in his comeback Test helped him move to sixth place, and young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal moved up one spot to break into the top five, recording a personal best rating of 751. Shubman Gill also moved up five spots after his century, from 19th to 14th.
Othe big movers include New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra, who excelled against Sri Lanka. He moved up 18 spots from 60th to 42nd. Najmul Hossain Shanto of Bangladesh also went up 14 places to 48th.
Sri Lankan spinner Prabath Jayasuriya was the main mover in the bowling rankings, moving up five places to eighth in the world. New Zealand's Ajaz Patel and Will O'Rourke also jumped 10 spots each, moving into 25th and 41st respectively.
Gurbaz, Rashid rise after Afghanistan's historic series win
There were two ODI series between Full Members underway over the past week, England v Australia and Afghanistan v South Africa. The former is still ongoing, but the latter ended in historic fashion as Afghanistan recorded their first-ever win, and series win over the Proteas.
Star performers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (194 runs in 3 matches) and Rashid Khan (7 wickets in 2 matches) have been rewarded with gains in the latest ODI rankings. Gurbaz achieved a career-best batting rating of 692 to move up 10 spots, into eighth in the world. Azamtullah Omarzai moved up 15 spots to 35th among batters, and nine spots among all-rounders to joint-12th.
Rashid rose eight spots in the bowling rankings, to No.3 in the world. South Africa's Lungi Ngidi also rose, by 14 spots to No.20. Afghanistan's Fazalhaq Farooqi moved up by eight spots to 34th.
From the England-Australia series, the main mover was opener Travis Head, who blasted 152 in the first ODI. He moved up seven spots to No.9 in the world.
