India’s Virat Kohli has slipped out of the top three in the latest ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings for the first time since 2015, with South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen overtaking the former India captain to take the third spot after a fine 134 off 117 balls against England on Tuesday.
Van der Dussen, who now has the highest-ever ODI average in the history of the game (74.95), leapfrogged Kohli to the third spot after notching his third hundred in 30 innings against England. He is currently behind Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq in the ODI Batting Rankings, the two Pakistan players holding onto their spot when the list was updated on Wednesday.
Kohli slipped down to No.4: the 33-year-old has not fallen below No.5 since 2011 and last fell out of the top three in October 2015. Recently, the batter had also moved out of the top 10 in the Test rankings.
The other massive gainers in the batting rankings were Rishabh Pant, whose match-winning 125* in the third ODI against England, saw him jump 25 places to 52nd. Hardik Pandya, who made a 55-ball 71 in the same game, also progressed eight spots to 42nd.
Pandya also moved up 25 places to 70th among bowlers after picking up a four-for in the third ODI. In the bowlers’ rankings, Jasprit Bumrah reached the top spot after scalping six wickets in the first ODI against England but slipped down to No.2 after missing the third match. Trent Boult now occupies the top spot.
