Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batsman Kusal Mendis has been arrested after being involved in a car accident, in which his vehicle hit and killed a 64-year-old man in Panadura, south of Colombo.
The accident occurred at 5am on Sunday, when Mendis’ SUV hit the victim, a local resident, who was riding a bicycle. Mendis is now likely to appear in front of the Panadura magistrate. According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, an initial statement by the police did not mention if Mendis, or the deceased, was under the influence of alcohol.
Mendis was part of Sri Lanka’s recent residential camp in Kandy, one of two camps conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket in June. Mendis has represented Sri Lanka in 44 Tests, 76 ODIs, and 26 T20Is.
