India’s left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav took a remarkable 6-25 to peg England back significantly in the first ODI at Trent Bridge.
The 23-year-old ripped out the heart of England’s batting line-up as the hosts were once again bamboozled by the tourists’ mystery spin.
After England made a strong start against the pace of Umesh Yadav and Siddarth Kaul, Kuldeep took the wickets of top three Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root.
Later he took the wickets of Jos Buttler, caught behind down leg for 53, Ben Stokes for 50 (which, thanks to the Indian’s brilliance, came off 103 balls) and David Willey.

In stark contrast to the recent match at the same ground against Australia, when England smashed a world-record 481, their innings on Thursday reaped just 268 all out, in a display that again bodes well for India’s chances in the three-match ODI series – and perhaps the five-match Test series too.
