Wicketkeeper-batsman Rudi Second has been replaced by Heinrich Klaasen in South Africa’s Test squad for their upcoming three-match series against India after suffering an injury.
Second was one of the three new faces in the 15-man Test squad for the India tour, with the first of the three matches scheduled to be played in Visakhapatnam, starting October 2.
Second suffered an injury while practising with South Africa A. The nature of Second’s injury was not revealed by CSA, but it requires immediate surgery.
He is yet to make his debut for South Africa, having played 105 first-class games over an eight-year career, averaging 45.05 with the bat and claiming 371 dismissals.

His replacement, Klaasen, essays essentially the same role as a batting ‘keeper, and is known for his lower-order power-hitting in white-ball cricket. Incidentally, he made his ODI and T20I debuts against India, when the side visited South Africa in early 2018. He is yet to play a Test.
