Indian journalist Boria Majumdar has alleged that India wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha tampered with screenshots of their WhatsApp chats before releasing them to the public, adding that his lawyers will be serving Saha a defamation notice.

On February 19, Saha posted screenshots of a series of chats with an unnamed journalist, with one of the texts to the wicketkeeper reading: “You did not call. Never again will I interview you. I don’t take insults kindly.” Saha followed it with a series of posts on the 22nd, saying he was “hurt and offended”, but maintained that he wouldn’t reveal the journalist’s name “on grounds of humanity”. The same week, BCCI announced that it would investigate Saha’s claims through a three-member committee.

On March 5, Saha told reporters that he had shared all details with the BCCI, saying, “I have told the committee everything I know”. The journalist in question was revealed when Majumdar, through a nine-minute-long video on Twitter, alleged that Saha had doctored screenshots of his chats with the wicketkeeper.

Saying that he’d known Saha for 12 years, Majumdar claimed that the 37-year-old had blurred the date of their conversation, revealing his own version of the chat window for comparison. He went on to elaborately discuss how Saha had played “the victim card”, before adding that his lawyers had advised him to “not fight slander with slander”, and revealing that they would serve a notice for defamation on the wicketkeeper.

Saha, who was excluded from India’s Test squad for the ongoing Sri Lanka series, claimed that he had been “indirectly told to retire”, revealing that he had been informed that the Indian management was looking at a younger face for the second Test wicketkeeper’s slot.
