England batsman Jonny Bairstow has received one demerit point from the ICC after being found guilty of using “an audible obscenity” during England’s victory over New Zealand on Sunday.
Bairstow’s obscenity was picked up by the stump mic and heard on television after he was dismissed for 47 by Jimmy Neesham during England’s 11-over chase of 147.
The 30-year-old was found to have violated Article 2.3 of the ICC’s code of conduct for players and player support personnel. He admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction after the match.

This is the second time this year Bairstow has received a demerit point; his previous offence came in May, when he swung his bat at the stumps in an ODI against Pakistan.
If a player accrues four demerit points over a period of two years, they are suspended for one Test match or two limited-over internationals.
